Why old scarring sits deeper than a facial can reach - and what that means for texture
If you have been exfoliating for months and the rough patches have softened but old marks still catch the light, there is a reason - and it is about depth, not effort.
Two different depths
Uneven texture rarely comes from one thing. A build-up of surface skin, dullness and congestion sit at the top layer - that rough, tired feel you can almost sense under your fingertips. The look of old scarring from past breakouts sits lower, in the deeper layers where skin renews more slowly.
That distinction matters, because a treatment can only help what it reaches.
What surface work does
Our hydrodermabrasion and microdermabrasion facials gently exfoliate the surface and infuse hydration in the same step. They lift away dullness and build-up, smooth the feel of rough texture and support a healthier-looking glow. For the surface, they do a genuinely useful job - and regular facials keep it maintained.
What they are not designed to do is reach the deeper layers where the look of old scarring sits.
What reaches deeper
For the appearance of old scarring and more refined texture over time, our main non-invasive option is fractional RF resurfacing, which gently warms the deeper layers to support the skin's own renewal. It works at a different depth to a facial, which is why the two are often suggested together rather than one instead of the other.
We are honest that results here are gradual, individual and never guaranteed. How much changes varies from person to person, and we confirm the right plan in person rather than deciding online.
The honest version
If old scarring is your main concern, more surface exfoliation on its own is unlikely to be the answer - not because you are doing it wrong, but because the concern sits deeper than the surface. Matching the treatment to the depth of the concern is the whole point.
If you would like a calm, considered look at your skin texture and scarring, the clearest next step is a skin consultation in person.
