Why hydration does not stay put in Hunter skin
Most people add more hydration when skin looks flat. Fewer people ask why the hydration they already apply does not stay.
Dull, dehydrated skin is usually a mix of build-up sitting on the surface and low moisture underneath. That is the setup. The more useful question is what happens to water once it goes on.
Water needs somewhere to go, and something over it
When the surface is cluttered with dull, dead skin, a hydrating product sits on top of that layer rather than settling into skin that can hold it. And water left on the surface with nothing over it simply leaves again. That is the honest reason a good serum can feel like it never quite lands - not that it is the wrong product, but that nothing about the order gave it a chance.
So the sequence matters more than the shopping. Clear first, hydrate into cleared skin, then seal.
The order at home
- Apply your hydrating step onto skin that is still slightly damp from cleansing, not onto skin you have dried off completely.
- Follow it with a moisturiser to hold that water in. This is the step people skip when their skin feels oily, and it is the step that does the holding.
- Go gently with cleansing. Stripping the surface in pursuit of a fresher look tends to leave skin less able to keep water, not more.
- Keep sunscreen daily. Sun exposure is one of the things that feeds back into a dull, tired-looking surface over time.
Why the Hunter makes this harder
Coastal wind pulls at exposed skin. Humid summers push most of us into air conditioning for hours a day, and winter runs on indoor heating - both dry the air we sit in. None of that is a new mechanism, just everyday life here, and it is why a routine that worked elsewhere can underperform in Newcastle.
Where the treatment fits
Hydrodermabrasion is our go-to for dull, dehydrated skin because it does the clearing and the hydrating in the same step - resurfacing while infusing moisture and serums. Many people notice a fresher, healthy-looking glow soon after, though responses vary from person to person.
What it does not do is create a result that then holds itself. Climate, lifestyle and a routine that does not suit your skin all keep working on your skin between visits. Regular facials and a home routine matched to your skin are what hold the result - there is no fixed schedule that suits everyone, and we decide yours for your skin rather than from a chart.
