Not every mark on your skin is a sun spot - and the difference matters

Uneven tone gets treated as one problem, but the darker patches on your skin often come from more than one source - and that is why a single approach rarely evens everything out.

Where uneven tone actually comes from

Here in Australia, years of sun exposure is the biggest driver. But it is not the only one. Your natural skin type and genetics play a part, and so do the marks that a past breakout or bit of irritation can leave behind as it heals. A sun spot and a post-inflammatory mark - the kind an old breakout or irritation leaves behind - can look similar, but they are not the same thing.

Why the difference matters

A post-inflammatory mark tends to settle down on its own path over time. Sun-driven pigment, on the other hand, keeps being fed by ongoing UV. This is where a lot of good intentions backfire: irritation is itself one of the things that leaves marks, so scrubbing hard at a patch to shift it faster can leave you with fresh ones. With uneven tone, a lighter touch tends to get you further than pushing harder.

How we approach it at the studio

Our approach is non-invasive and science-led. Regular resurfacing facials refresh the surface and support a brighter look, while fractional RF can support more even-looking texture over time. Results are gradual and vary from person to person, and daily SPF is part of any plan.

One important note: any spot that is new, changing, itchy or unusual should be checked by a GP or skin-cancer clinic before any cosmetic treatment. Your safety comes first.

Because uneven tone has more than one cause, the honest first step is telling them apart in person rather than guessing online.
